While the DreamWorks movie, Sinbad, was so bad, even my 12 year old daughter was bored to tears, the graphics were terrific, as Linux Plays Starring Role in 'Sinbad'. I am pretty sure this will be the thing we remember this movie for!

Thursday night the Chicago Software Process Improvement Network, aka CSPIN, had an excellent monthly meeting. Attendance was the best I have seen in quite some time, maybe 50 people or so, and they came to hear Phillip Armour present "Of Zeppelins and Jet Planes: The Nature of Software and the Laws of Software Process". I found this presentation on the web, and it is very similar to the discussion at CSPIN. I felt Mr. Armour's concept of The Five Orders of Ignorance very thought provoking. As usual when I go to these meetings I get frustrated that the state of software engineering seems to be continuously in a state of "immaturity". Someone smarter than me will have to explain why that is. Mr. Armour takes a stab at explaining it in that " Software is not a product. It is a medium to store knowledge." I am going to have to mull over this some more, I recommend interested parties to take a look at the presentation.

I completed reading Next: The Future Just Happened by Michael Lewis. I really enjoyed the book, he presents a historical review of a few major events brought about by the Internet, and then provides some food for what this might mean for the future. I was at times surprised, like reading a mystery, only I knew of each event...Mr. Lewis makes it surprising by providing the context. I thank him for the insight.

Ximian was acquired by Novell. I think this will probably be a good thing, giving more momentum to Linux on the desktop.

Eric Raymond will be releasing "The Art of Unix Programming" soon. The pre-release book shows this to be a wonderful journey through the Unix culture. Take a look and enjoy!
Last night's edition of The Linux Show featured Dan Frye, Director of IBM's Technology Center. Dan spoke about the importance of Linux at IBM, how IBM supports the Linux community, and vice versa. Dan also spoke about how SUSE Enterprise Linux, out of the box, is being certified to meet some very important and stringent Security Criteria. Also discussed, were Linux Expo and the ongoing stuff with SCO over IP contained in Linux.
